BILSTEIN B6 installation mistake

The installation of BILSTEIN B6 high performance shock absorbers can result in a significant increase in safety and performance. Road grip and lane stability in particular are optimised. Optimum dissipation of the forces generated reduces the tendency to roll. This is an important aspect especially in the SUV segment. The enclosed installation instructions are the basis for converting to BILSTEIN B6 shock absorbers. Especially for the first generation Honda CR-V, some important points have to be observed during installation, which are explained in this technical tip.

For this vehicle type attention must be paid to the installation of the standard brake hose holder.

The BILSTEIN B6 for the CR-V I comes with a special assembly tool. This does not remain permanently on the vehicle, but only serves to open the brake hose holder.

The following example shows the consequences that can result from incorrect installation:

After fitting the brake hose holder to the new BILSTEIN B6 shock absorber, the mounting tube was incorrectly fitted above the snap ring. However, the snap ring is actually intended to hold the spring plate and the mounting sleeve is only intended as a mounting aid for the brake hose holder.

Due to the wrong installation described above, the spring plate of the shock absorber now takes up a raised position. This results in a significantly increased ground clearance at the front axle, although the lowering springs installed at the same time should have exactly the opposite effect.
