LuK Dual Mass Flywheel with Centrifugal Pendulum-type Absorber
A small addition resulting in big fuel savings
Product description:
After its success in developing the dual mass flywheel (DMF), LuK set another milestone in vibration damping technology by integrating a centrifugal pendulum absorber (CPA), with no increase in overall component size. Damping capacity is improved by adding this engine speed adaptive component.
A DMF consists of two masses that can be rotated against each other by up to 120°. Both masses are connected by an efficient arc spring damper system, and by adding a CPA, damping performance is increased even further. With it, new engine concepts can realise their full potential for fuel and CO2 reduction, while retaining high levels of driving comfort.
What the CPA does is simple – its spring loaded, oscillating masses vibrate in opposition to the torsional vibration of the engine, which is especially strong at low engine speeds.
The energy caused by rotational irregularities is completely absorbed by the pendulum, reducing drivetrain vibration.
Benefits:
- Prevents noise and vibration in the drivetrain
- Long service life
- Comfortable driving at low engine speeds
- Reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions
- LuK is the first DMF manufacturer to incorporate the CPA, which is now available in the aftermarket for vehicles equipped with the technology
